Foxtel Dropped Out After a New Modem? Two iQ4 Boxes Back Online in Killarney Heights

This is easily one of the most common calls I get. Someone’s internet provider sends out a new modem, it goes in, the internet works fine — and then the Foxtel box won’t load anything. Nothing’s broken. The box just doesn’t know about the new network yet.

That’s what had happened at a place in Killarney Heights. Two Foxtel iQ4 boxes, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom, both sitting there with the internet gone. The satellite side of things was still fine, but anything on demand, any app, any recording sync — all of it needs the box talking to the internet, and the box was still looking for a wifi network that no longer existed.

Reconnecting a Foxtel iQ4 After a Modem Change

The fix is straightforward once you know where to look, but it does mean going into the box’s network settings and pointing it at the new modem with the new password. Both boxes went back online and everything on demand started working again. If you’ve swapped modems and your Foxtel’s gone quiet, that’s almost always all it is — the box hasn’t broken and you don’t need a new one.

Worth knowing: each box needs doing separately. Getting the lounge one working doesn’t fix the bedroom.

Free-to-Air Apps on the Big Screen in Killarney Heights

While I was there I also logged both TVs into the free-to-air apps — 7plus, 9Now, 10 Play, ABC iview and SBS On Demand. A lot of people don’t realise those apps carry channels and catch-up content the satellite dish doesn’t bring in, and it costs nothing on top of what you’re already paying. Once they’re set up and logged in they sit on the home screen alongside everything else.

It’s the sort of thing that takes ten minutes but makes a real difference to what’s actually available to watch.
