Just replaced an 8-year-old LG 65-inch with a brand new one for a customer in Killarney Heights, and it’s a good example of why a TV upgrade doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch.
Swapping TVs in Killarney Heights Without Re-Doing the Wall
The old TV had been sitting on a flat wall bracket for years, and the good news was the new LG matched up closely enough that the original bracket did the job again — no new hardware, no fresh holes in the brick. Just unclip the old one, clip on the new one, and it sat exactly where it always had.
The cable run carried over too. Because the wiring already had a path through to the TV, the new HDMI and power leads just followed the same route — no need to open the wall up again. From the front, it still looks like the TV’s floating, same clean finish as before.
Connecting Older Headphones to a New TV in Northern Beaches Homes
This customer also had a Fetch box for streaming and free-to-air, plus a set of Sennheiser RF headphones they’ve relied on for years to watch TV late at night without waking the house. Those headphones only take the old red-and-white RCA analog connection — and TVs haven’t had that output for a long time.
Modern TVs, including this new LG, only send audio out via optical or HDMI ARC. Soundbars are built for that and plug straight in. But older RF headphone transmitters like these were designed for RCA, so there was no direct port to connect to anymore.
The fix was a small digital-to-analog converter, which takes the optical signal from the TV and converts it back into the RCA output the transmitter needs. Once it was wired in, the headphones worked exactly as they always had — no need to replace gear that was still doing its job.
It’s a situation I run into a fair bit on the Northern Beaches when upgrading a TV for someone with older but perfectly good audio gear. The TV changes; a small adapter usually means nothing else has to.
