This one was a straightforward TV setup in St Ives, replacing a TV that had done a solid 18 years of service. The customer’s new Sony 50-inch had just arrived, and she wanted everything connected and working properly rather than figuring it out herself.
Connecting the New Sony to Foxtel and the DVD Player
The existing Foxtel box and DVD player both needed to be reconnected to the new TV, with all the inputs set up correctly so switching between them is simple rather than something she has to think about every time. After 18 years on the old set, even small things like the remote and input switching are worth getting right from the start.
Setting Up Google TV and the Streaming Apps in St Ives
With the physical connections sorted, the rest of the job was on the software side. I signed her into Google TV and set up Netflix, ABC iView, SBS On Demand, 7plus, 9Now and 10 Play, so everything she watches regularly was ready to go without any further setup on her end.
I also downloaded a handful of extra apps she wasn’t using yet, just in case she wants them down the track. It’s a small thing, but it means she won’t need to call someone out again just to add an app she’s curious about later. Before I left, I ran her through the basics on the new remote, showing her how to jump between Foxtel, the DVD player and the streaming apps without getting lost in menus. New TVs set everything up a little differently to what people are used to, and eighteen years is a long time between remotes, so it’s worth a few minutes making sure she wasn’t left guessing.
