LG OLED TV Upgrade in Terrey Hills, Northern Beaches: Cutting Down on Streaming Boxes While Keeping Foxtel and Fetch TV

LG OLED 65 inch TV setup with soundbar in Terrey Hills, Northern Beaches

An 18-year-old 46in Sony finally got retired at a place in Terrey Hills, replaced with a new 65in LG OLED and a matching soundbar. The old TV had done well to last that long, but the cabinet underneath it told its own story: an Apple TV, a Chromecast, a set of computer speakers, plus the Foxtel box and the Fetch TV recorder, all cabled in and half of them barely used anymore.

Working Out What Actually Needed to Stay in Terrey Hills

Not every box under a TV is doing something useful, and that’s exactly what I found here. The Apple TV and Chromecast were both just there to stream apps, which is exactly what the new LG OLED already does on its own smart platform. There was no reason to keep either plugged in once the new TV was set up, and the computer speakers had only been filling in for a soundbar the old TV never had. Foxtel and Fetch TV are a different story though. Those aren’t streaming apps, they’re a satellite service and a free-to-air recorder, so they had to stay connected and working properly on the new setup.

Setting Up the LG OLED and Keeping Foxtel and Fetch TV Running

Once I knew what was staying and what was going, the rest of the job was straightforward. I mounted the new soundbar under the OLED, ran fresh HDMI leads from the Foxtel box and the Fetch TV recorder into the correct inputs, and set both up so recordings and channels carried across without the customer losing anything they were used to. From there I set up the LG’s smart platform, signed in the streaming apps they actually use, and cleared the old Apple TV and Chromecast out of the cabinet completely. The result was a cabinet with two boxes doing real work instead of five doing not much at all, and a soundbar that was actually paired and set up properly from the start.

This is a common one across Terrey Hills and the rest of the Northern Beaches. People upgrade the TV but keep every old streaming box out of habit, not realising the new TV already does that job. Foxtel and Fetch TV are the exception, since those need to stay wired in and set up correctly rather than replaced by an app.

If you’ve just upgraded your TV and want the old boxes sorted out, or you need Foxtel or Fetch TV connected properly on a new set, I can help. I cover TV setup, soundbar installation, and entertainment unit decluttering across Terrey Hills, the rest of the Northern Beaches, and the North Shore.
