This TV wall mounting job in Narrabeen, on the Northern Beaches, was for an older LG TV. The customer wanted it on the wall in their upstairs family room. Here’s how it went, plus a handy tip for anyone with an older smart TV.
TV Wall Mounting in Narrabeen on a Gyprock Wall
The wall was gyprock over a timber frame, which is a common setup in houses. However, gyprock on its own isn’t strong enough to hold a TV. So I found the timber studs behind it and fixed the universal wall bracket I supplied into two of them. That way, the weight goes into the frame of the house, not the plasterboard.
A universal bracket fits most TVs, as long as it matches the TV’s VESA mounting holes and can take its weight. I check both before anything goes on the wall.
A Longer Antenna Cable for the New Spot
I also had to make up a longer coax antenna cable to reach the TV in its new spot. Making it to the right length means there’s no extra cable coiled up behind the TV, and no joins to cause problems later.
Why the Older LG Could Get Netflix but Not Stan
The TV was a smart TV, but on the older side. It could still run Netflix, but not Stan. This is common with older smart TVs. Over time, streaming services stop supporting older models, so some apps disappear or never show up at all.
These days, the easy fix is a streaming box, like an Apple TV or a Google TV Streamer. It plugs into a spare HDMI port and brings back the missing apps. In most cases, it runs faster than the TV’s own apps too.

LG 55” TV Wall Mount in Willoughby, North Shore: Bracket Fitted to Built-In Cabinetry
This TV wall mount in Willoughby was a little different to most. Instead of a plain plasterboard wall, the family’s new 55-inch LG went into a custom built-in unit.
